2 Peas Become 1

Less than 24 hours!Seeing as how today is celebrated as the day of love, I was lucky enough to spend my Valentine’s Day preparing for the Peabody – Peacock wedding (or as the bride and I like to call it, #Peabodycock). Today was their wedding rehearsal, which I enjoyed since it gave me a good practice run for their photos. But even more than testing my lighting, white balance and shutter speed, it was beautiful to see their love and commitment.

Leading up to this day, amidst all the planning, flower arrangements, bridal magazines, budgeting, and saying yes to the dress, Bride Lisa said something that stuck with me (so much that I made it a special note in my iPhone).

This is all for a celebration of finding the one person you truly love. But in finding that, you come to realize how much love you are constantly surrounded by.
And it’s a beautiful thing.

You live. You love. You learn.

It’s been said that “it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.” Obviously, this guy never suffered from a broken heart. Perhaps he should meet the “ignorance is bliss” author. Or maybe Taylor Swift.

2013 was a year where I challenged myself to go outside my comfort zone, try new things, and take a leap of faith. Apparently it was also the year I was meant to fall flat on my face while slipping into a deep state of depression. You live. You love. You learn. Continue reading

Open Mic Night

I took dance classes for 10 years, minored in dance in college and have always considered myself a pretty musically adept girl. That being said, the only instrument I’ve ever played was the recorder I owned in the fourth grade (I played a mean Hot Cross Buns). I feel (and make) music with my feet, which is probably why I was never really great at picking up an instrument and showcasing my shredding skills.
Insert Allison and her ukulele.

Lean_UkuleleThe ukulele is to a guitar as a puppy is to a dog. It’s adorable and a little less intimidating. I’ve always wanted to prove to myself that I could indeed play an instrument (other than the recorder, of course). So, my friend Allison introduced me to the ukulele and proceeded to teach me four chords that would metamorphose into several songs. I bought my very own uke and began my dexterity drills. Before long, I was making something that sort of sounded like music.
Insert a long day at work and Happy Hour Hump Day. Continue reading

5K and Free Beer

Celebrating my first 5K survival with some of my favorite ladies

Celebrating my first 5K survival with some of my favorite ladies

I work for a nonprofit with a focus on healthy living that offers me a plethora of opportunities to engage in activities, including running events. However, the first time I signed up for one of their 5Ks, my friend and I got lost on our way to the race and decided to go to the local flea market. It was 8am when we arrived at the “Beer Pond,” the flea market’s bar. We both ordered a Coors Light and somehow managed to crash a wedding reception (that’s too good to make up). Long story short, I gave up on the idea of being a runner for a while. Continue reading
